How Much of an Affect Will Obamapalooza Have on the Polls?

As of now, John McCain tends to trail Barrack Obama by 4%, depending on the poll.  However, most of those polls were completed before Obama's tour of the Middle East and Europe began or concluded.  It will be interesting to see how the polling trends change after Obama has returned to America.

Changing History

Senator Obama's geographical/historical illiteracy is rearing its ugly head again [link: CNN.com]:

Throughout our history, America's confronted constantly evolving danger, from the oppression of an empire, to the lawlessness of the frontier, from the bomb that fell on Pearl Harbor, to the threat of nuclear annihilation. Americans have adapted to the threats posed by an ever-changing world.

The man also has said we have 57 states and that Afghanis speak Arabic.  The quote above was taken from a scripted speech -- imagine what this guy might actually say in an unscripted debate?

Hopefully we'll get one.

A Welcome Change

Scanning today's headlines yields a promising trend in the campaign for president:  a focus on the issues.  The headlines are filled with talk on taxes and energy independence and you have to believe that if substance receives more attention than style, John McCain stands a pretty good chance of coming out on top in November.

Thank Her for Quitting While You Were Still Ahead

The Baseball Crank has been analyzing the home-stretch of the Democrat primaries and it is truly astounding how poorly the eventual winner, Barrack Obama, has fared [link: Baseball Crank: POLITICS: Obamomentum - End-of-the-Primaries Edition].

It's going to be quite an interesting general election.  On the one hand, the more the public finds out about Obama, the less they like him.  On the other, John McCain hails from a party that could not have a worse reputation right now -- people that boo children at little league games might be more highly regarded.

A Reagan-esque Remark

There's been a lot of discussion as of late about whether or not John McCain is a "Reagan-style" Republican.  I think most people would agree that though there are some similarities, there also a lot of differences.

But when I read McCain's remarks on Fidel Castro:

"I hope he has the opportunity to meet Karl Marx very soon,"

I couldn't help but think that was certainly something Reagan would have said.  Remember when Reagan called Col. Muammar al-Qaddafi "a flake"?

It's not the high cost of living, it's the cost of living high.
